Dmitri Osipov goes 1st overall in CHL 2013 Import Draft

Just as expected, the 1st overall pick in this year's KHL Entry Draft by Amur Khabarovsk, Dmitri Osipov was selected 1st overall also in the CHL Import Draft by Vancouver Giants.


The second pick overall came for young Finn Alex Lintuniemi who spent last season playing for Jokerit U20 in Finnish junior league. He was selected by Ottawa 67s.

The majority of players came from Russia, 23 of them. Besides Osipov, Maxim Lazarev went 3rd overall by Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. No other Russians were within the top 10 picks.

The Czech Republic gave 11 young talents, the highest pick being Vaclav Karabaček, 18th overall by Gatineau Olympiques, who was also drafted into the KHL 36th overall by newcomers Medveščak Zagreb. The second pick from the Czech Republic was Jan Mandat, selected by Victoriaville Tigres as 24th.

Switzerland is next with 10 youngsters. Timo Meier as creme de la menthe from Switzerland, 12th pick overall by Halifax Mooseheads.

Other European nations had less than 10 players, and they are in descending order with the highest pick denoted in brackets:

Norway and Austria gave only one player this year. The only Norwegian drafted was Jorgen Karterud drafted by Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds as 35th overall, while Austria's lone shot came in the second round. Dominic Zwerger selected 106th overall by Spokane Chiefs. He spent last year playing for Davos juniors in the Swiss elite junior tier league.
