Russian and Swedish teams to play for the Junior Club World Cup title

Chaika and Djurgården both won its JCWC semifinal 5-2 today.


Chicago Steel - Djurgårdens IF 2-5

In the first semifinal in Yekaterinburg Djurgården of Stockholm, Sweden played the winner of Group A, Chicago Steel. The Americans took the lead in the first period with a goal by Brandon Duhaime but Djurgården scored three times in the second period. Markus Nygren, Fredrik Forsberg and Alexander Glimtoft were the ones who beat Czech goalie Daniel Vladař in the Steel net. Markus Nygren scored his second goal of the game early in the last period and after that Djurgården comfortabely could control the game. Duhaime scored his second of the game too but Pontus Karlsson secured the 5-2 win one second before the 50-minute mark.

Chaika Niznhy Novgorod - Avto Yekaterinburg 5-2

In the all-Russian semi Chaika beat the home side Avto 5-2. Avto outshot Chaika in all three periods for a total of 39-26 but Andrei Sukhanov in Chaika's net made 25 saves. Mikhail Smolin scored two goals for Chaika, the first and the last of the game. Andrei Runov, Roman Gorbunov and Mikhail Potapov scored the other Chaika goals while Pavel Lukoshin and Andrei Obidin scored for Avto.

The final will be played Sunday between Chaika and Djurgården. When they played in the group stage Djurgården won 6-4. Chicago and Avto will play a bronze medal game, also on Sunday.
