All change at Sheffield Steelers

After a disappointing start for them, and a serious lack of available firepower with one of their top forwards being injured, Head Coach Paul Thompson decided changes were needed at the Sheffield Steelers after just ten games.

Late arrivals Matt and Ryan Rupert were the ones to make way for the arrival of  new personnel.

Paul Thompson admitted he had got it wrong when signing the twin brothers from Indy Fuel in the ECHL. Steelers would like to thank Matt and Ryan for their efforts during their time in Sheffield and wish them all of the very best of luck in the future.

The first new arrival was that of GB veteran international Brendan Brooks.

Brooks has played the last three seasons in the Elite League (two with the Braehead Clan and one with the Fife Flyers) scoring 75 goals and 163 points in 182 games. Brooks, who also holds a British passport played a pivotal role in Great Britain’s promotion to “Pool A” at last year’s World Championships playing alongside existing Steelers Jonathan Phillips, Robert Dowd and Davey Phillips.

In a distinguished career, Brooks played 284 AHL games before heading to Europe in 2007. Since then he has played in Norway, Switzerland, Germany and Austria before heading to Braehead and the UK in 2015.

It is understood there is more to come from the Sheffield camp next week.
