One in three out in Sheffield

As Sheffield Steelers (EIHL) gear up for a play off push changes were made.

After 5 straight losses and the very real prospect of not making the play offs Sheffield Steelers (EIHL) reacted by sacking three players. Goaltender Matt Climie and forwards Justin Buzzeo and Stefan Della Rovere were on Tuesday that their services were no longer required. Losing three players from any squad is a drastic step. But the club will be hoping to find replacements quickly, one perhaps before the weekend. Fans may feel that the three selected for the cut were unlucky - there are plenty of others who have under-performed as the team slipped to next to bottom. It will certainly be a career low-point for the trio.

Within a day Steelers had reacted  to bolster the team with the signing of 34-year-old left winger Tom Zanoski and hope to have him in the line up ahead of the two crucial games against MK Lightning this weekend. Zanoski has been playing for Medvescak Zagreb, the same team that forward John Armstrong re-joined us from last month. “I’m thrilled to be joining Sheffield,” he said “John and many others have told me great things about the club and the City. “It’s been a difficult time for us all in Zagreb so it will be nice to come and join the Steelers focussing on nothing but hockey and our play off push”
