Croatian team closes the season in advance and won't play EBEL post-season. The future of the club is still unclear

After some months of uncertainty about the economic situation, Medvescak Zagreb released a short statement announcing the club, currently at the bottom of EBEL standing, won't play the qualyfing round, after a joint decision by the club and the league, at the request of Medveščak. This decision came after the session of the EBEL General Assembly in Salzburg.

The club citing the unavailability of Dom Sportova Arena for the second half of the season, making difficult arranging a calendar and "the situation with the players", an expression to define the difficult economic situation of the club, which led to reducing the roster, with the departure of many players

Medveščak future is still uncertain, but almost certainly won't be in the EBEL next season. Alps Hockey League and Hungarian/Romanian Erste Liga, both requiring a lower budget, could be an option.

After the breakup of Yugoslavia Medveščak played in the Slovenian League for two seasons, and then in the Austrian League from 2009 to 2013 reaching twice the semifinals, in 2009-10 and 2011-2012. From 2013 until 2017 played in the Kontinental Hockey League, before returning to the EBEL.
