Great Britain v Canada

After their opening day defeat Great Britain took on no 1 ranked Canada.

Great Britain took on a Canadian side who they last met in 1994 and the gulf between the sides was apparent from the off, mainly because they were up against a full NHL roster. Canada, faster to the puck, were 1-0 up inside three minutes when MATHIEU JOSEPH pounced on a rebound after a shot from Henrique to open the scoring. Canada doubled the lead eight minutes later when ANTHONY MANTHA shot from the slot after he seized on a pass from  behind the goal.

GB settled down after this, perhaps they were a little overawed by the occasion at the start. Bowns in the GB goal put on a fantastic show throughout the game.

However, in the second period Canada really went to town scoring three more times. The first was scored by Captain KYLE TURRIS who picked up a pass from Mantha before shooting backhanded past Bowns. Then STROME found the puck first after a Marchessault shot had ringed off the post. Only 23 seconds were left in the middle period when DANTE picked up the third of the period.

Continuing where they left off Canada added a sixth at the start of the final period when TURRIS finished off a pass from Mantha. COUTURIER GOT a seventh in the 47th minute and MANTHA capped of his five point night with his second goal to make the score 8-0. This saw the end of a sterling performance from Bowns as Jackson Whistle replaced him in goal. There was to be no further scoring and the Canadians took their first points of the tournaament.
