Finland shut out Great Britain.

Finland went 2-1 all time against Great Britain when a fluent skating Finnish side won by 3 goals.

This game was decided in the second period when goals from Rajala, Ohtamaa and Kiviranta for Finland, after a tight first period. Finland had much of the play in the first, outshooting its opponents, 12-2, but they couldn’t beat Bowns, who was impressive in the GB crease.

In the second, however, the fluid skating Finns stepped up their game and their effective trap-style of hockey prevented much GB offence and the three goals from Finland put them well in command.

Coach Russell pulled Bowns with 3:40 remaining, trying to get his team a goal or, more precisely, practising a situation that might come at a more critical time against France early next week. The Brits moved the puck around nicely for more than a minute before surrendering an empty netter to Kristian Kuusela.

Finland closed out the scoring with a power-play goal by Mikko Lehtonen with only 11.8 seconds remaining. The scoreboard showed 5-0, but it was really a 3-0 game and a decent result for Britain.
