Sweden wins Channel One Cup

Sweden wins Channel One Cup

15 Dec 2019 | Fredrik Pålsson

First tournament win for Sweden with Johan Garpenlöv as head coach.

In his second tournament as head coach for Team Sweden Johan Garpenlöv won his first tournament title. Tre Kronor got off a good start by beating Russia on away ice 4-3. Even if they lost big against Finland on day 2 (1-5) a win against Czech Republic in Moscow today was enough to clinch the title.

Dennis Rasmussen lead Sweden to victory after first opening the score and later seal the victory with a late empty net goal.

Russia finished second in the tournament, Finland third and Czech Republic fourth. But if you look at the overall standings after two tournaments it's the other way around with the Czech Republic in the lead and Sweden in last place.
