Ligue Magnus reduces participants

From the 2014-2015 season French main league will count with 12 clubs. League Cup will be canceled.
During the General Assembly held on June 24, French Federation presented to all
Ligue Magnus, 1 and 2 Division clubs the conclusions of a study started in 2009 about the health of French hockey, divided in different parts: sports organization, marketing and communication, training, advice and expertise. The conclusions, amongst other things, suggested a reduction of Ligue Magnus clubs from current 14 to 12 to better develop the junior movement. The proposal was voted unanimously and will come into force from season 2014-15.
The new Ligue Magnus will have a double home-away round robin for a total of 44 games (current are 26) in regular season. The first 8 clubs will compete for playoffs, the last 4 will play a play-out to avoid relegation. The League Cup (
Coupe de la Ligue) will be canceled. All clubs will receive training to better organize human resources and administration, communication and marketing, and the Federation will create a dedicated website for Magnus Ligue.
