Stjernen in financial trouble

01 Dec 2010 | Fredrik Pålsson

The Norwegian club Stjernen are having a tough season both on and off the ice. The club is in last place with only five wins in 22 games and is also forced to release two players because of financial trouble.

The Norwegian elite club Stjernen release their captain Niklas Juntti and also player Johan Berggren as well as the assistant coach Magnus Rahm due to financial difficulties. The club has had a hard start of the season and are currently in last place in GET-ligaen.

The difficulties on the ice has also meant problems off the ice. The bad results has lead to low attendance numbers and low income for the club. The club has also had problems finding sponsors and decided they needed to cut salary costs to save the economy of the club.

The Swedish born team captain Niklas Juntti who has played over 400 games for Stjernen was very disappointed after being released. "This was not how I wanted to finish my career. I've been with the club for eight and a half years. I'm the team captain, this must be embarrassing for the club" the 35 year old told local newspaper Fredriksstad Blad.
