Landeskog named Colorado Avalanche captain

The Swedish forward is the youngest player in NHL history to be named captain.

 
 
 
 
The Colorado Avalanche announced today that the Swedish forward Gabriel Landeskog has been named team captain. Landeskog replaceds Milan Hejduk at the position and becomes the fourth captain since the franchise moved to Colorado.

Landeskog who turns 20 on November 23 is the youngest player ever to be named captain in the NHL being eleven days younger than Sidney Crosby was when he was named captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Landeskog who won the 2012 Calder Memorial Trophy as the top rookie of the season will go into his second NHL season with a C on his jersey. Previously he has also been team captain of the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL and alternate captain for Team Sweden at both the World Championship and the World Junior Championship.
