ROCKs Cup stirs Brasov summer

ROCKs Cup stirs Brasov summer

The city of Brasov (Romania) was the host of a very interesting preparation tournament in the past weekend which marked the beginning of the hockey season in Romania.

The organizers of the event prepared 3 days of quality hockey for the fans, and to make it even more appealing they invited a rock band to perform near the newly built ice rink every night after the games have ended. Even if the Brasov ROCKs Cup was just a preparation tournament, they managed to invite some pretty awesome teams:

SAPA Fehervar, Hungary's best team which is participating in the Austrian top league EBEL for the 7th consecutive season; Rosenborg IHK Elite from the top league of Norway and a closer opponent from the MOL Liga, HC Nove Zamky from Slovakia.

Corona Wolves Brasov started this tournament wanting to prove that the intense summer preparations were not all for nothing and their main objective was to beat their Slovak counterparts (Nove Zamky intensly transferred players this summer, and they are a real contender for winning the MOL Liga in the upcoming season), and to keep up with the "big dogs".

Experts already predicted that the battle for the first place will be between SAPA Fehervar and Rosenborg, but nobody thought that a decimated SAPA (several players suffered from indigestion and they could barely put out 3 lines) would win so easily against the Norwegians. Brasov fans were also pleased with their favorite's results; they managed to beat HC Nove Zamky in a dramatic match and they held up fairly good against the other two teams.

   Final standings:

1.SapaFehervar
2.Rosenborg
3.Corona Wolves
4.Nove Zamky

From a MOL Liga perspective, the two participating teams were on par with the expectations, both Brasov and Nove Zamky invested a lot this summer in order to occupy a higher position in the league in this upcoming season. The two teams finally started using their bodies more often and did not get frightened when the opponent used physical force against them, which is a particularity of the MOL Liga teams. Whit a bit of more ice time, and practice, these two teams were be the top contenders in the 2013-2014 MOL Liga.
