They lost to Austria on the last day but that didn’t matter. The German team had already, after four wins, secured the promotion back to the 2017 Women’s World Championship.

Germany relegated from the WWC last year after two overtime losses against Japan. On the first attempt they bounce back to the top level.

After beating Slovakia, Denmark, Norway and France in Aalborg, Denmark the promotion was already won after four games. Today’s last game against Austria didn’t matter so the 3-1 loss didn’t hurt very much.

The German team was led by 19-years-old Laura Kluge who scored 6 goals and 3 assists. She was the top scorer of the event and also named best forward.

Germany easily beat France 5-0, but it was still France who was the closest contender. They beat all other opponents and finish on 12 points, just like Germany. France’s Caroline Baldin was named best goalie of the tournament.

Slovakia lost in overtime to Norway on the last day in the game that decided who relegates of the two. Linn Aakre scored the goal that keeps Norway at the second level of Women’s hockey.
