The resumption of ice hockey in Britain begins this weekend. It will be in the form of a short seven week competition known as the Spring Cup.

In the Spring Cup there will be five teams involved:

Bracknell Bees London Raiders Sheffield Steeldogs Swindon Wildcats Telford Tigers.

As you can see these are all teams from the NIHL 9the second tier of hockey in the UK. This is because sufficient funding was not made available for top tier clubs to play the sport.

All the games are to be played behind closed doors with a stream of most games being made available, if people are prepared to pay for it.

The details are as follows:

·  5 teams playing each other home and away over 7 weekends each team playing each other 3 times for a total of 12 games each
• All games to be played behind closed doors, with streaming where facilities are available
• Points to be allocated using the usual league rules, with the top placed team at the end of the series awarded the cup.  If fixtures cannot be played as scheduled, the teams in conjunction with the EIHA will determine the appropriate award or rescheduling of the game.

There is to be a phase 2 of the return to play initiative when all ten teams of the National league may take part, this will be during April and May, details have not as yet beeen finalized.
