Khanty-Mansiysk team finished a season to remember with the Petrov Cup title


Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk win the VHL title after a brillant regular season, finished at the top ahead of Neftyanik Almetievsk and Dizel Penza, Yugra began the postseason knocked out Dynamo Krasnogorsk - 4-1 in the series - Khimik Voskresensk (4-0) and Dinamo St. Petersburg (4-3) in a tough semifinal series, before to face in the finals another former KHL team, Metallurg Novokuznetsk, finished sixth in the regular season, landed in the final after becoming holder of an historic record: no team in history has managed to score as many goals in a playoff tournament as Metallurg.

With 80 goals scored, the club surpassed the previous record of 75 goals, which was set by Krylya Sovetov Moscow in 2009, with a remarkable average performance of 4.16 goals per game.

The captain of Metallurg Maksim Kitsyn, has set a new record in the VHL for the number of points scored in the playoffs: 27 (12 + 15) in 20 games. Thus, Kitsyn updated the record of modern history of the VHL, set in 2018 by Aleksandr Shevchenko with Dinamo St. Petersburg, scored 25 points in 20 matches.

In the finals Yugra closed the question after five games, with a 2-1 after overtime victory in game #5 with decisive goal scored by Andrei Churkin after 62 minutes.

Ugra striker Kirill Pilipenko was recognized as the most valuable player in the VHL playoffs. The forward played 20 games in the playoffs and scored 20 points, with 12 goals and 8 assists.

It's the third VHL title for Yugra, previously champion in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. From 2010 to 2018 the club played in KHL
