The Gold medal game turned out to be a repeat match up of the last World Championship final, when Finland defeated Canada 3-1. However, this time the result differed as Canada won the game in overtime for their third World Championship in the last six years.

Finland opened the scoring in the ninth minute after Mikael Ruohomaa tucked away a rebound after a shot from the point. The game was end to end and very close with Canada just edging out Finland on scoring opportunities in the first.

The second period beloged to canada at first and in the 25th minute a shot from the point by Brown hit the post rebounded onto Comtois and a Finnish defender before Maxime Comtois pushed the puck home.

Henrique thought he'd scored for Canada ten minutes later but after video review the goal was called offside.

So after a close, tense tird period there was literally nothing to separate the teams.

But six minuted into the third Petteri Lindbohm picked up a pass at the left point and rifled a shot past Kuemoer in the Canadian goal.

It looked all over until the Canadians began their second powerplay. This time Adam Henrique was not to be denied as he picked up a pass from Comtois and slotted home to tie the game up.

That set the stage for Nick Paul's heroics.

Just six minutes into overtime Nick Paul of the Ottawa Senators won the game after he collected a pass from Connor Brown.
