Russia with a hew coaching staff for the Olympics with Alexei Zhamnov as head coach beat Canada 4-3 in CSKA Arena on the first day of the second EHT tournament this season.

Yegor Korshkov gave Russia an early lead. Brandon Gormley tied it in the second period but Alexander Yelesin only needed 25 seconds to take Russia ahead again. Nikita Nesterov and Vadim Shipachyov made it 3-1 and 4-1 and it looked like Russia would get a comfortable win. But Daniel Audette scored to give Canada hope and Eric O’Dell made it 4-3 at 58:38 when Canada had pulled Justin Pogge from the net. Russia with Ivan Fedotov between the pipes could however resist the last Canadian attacks to win it 4-3.
