The 2022 IIHF Annual Congress has allocated tournaments for the upcoming season


  • The dates and places for the next World Championships have been set today when the IIHF Congress approved a joint bid of Finland and Latvia to host the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship replacing St. Petersburg after the hosting rights had been withdrawn from Russia.

    The next Worlds will take place at the biggest venues of two of the world’s most passionate hockey countries in Tampere and Riga from 12 to 28 May 2023.
  • Dates have also been set for the following years

  • 2024: Prague & Ostrava (Czechia), 10-26 May 2024
  • 2025: Stockholm (Sweden) & Herning (Denmark), 9-25 May 2025
  • 2026: Zurich & Fribourg (Switzerland), 15-31 May 2026

The men's u18 tournament will take place in Switzerland with venues to be determined and the Womens u18 will be played in Sweden, (Osterund and Brunflo, 8th to 15th january 2023) following the relocation of the 2022 edition, which will take place next month in the U.S. (6-13 June in Madison & Middleton, Wisconsin). The 2024 Championship is to be hosted by Switzerland.

The World Championship Division 1A is to be hosted by Nottingham in the U.K. The 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A will thus be played with Italy, Great Britain, Lithuania, Korea, Poland and Romania; Group B with Japan, Ukraine, Estonia, China, Serbia and the Netherlands. This will be the highest level of ice hockey U.K. have hosted since London in 1950.

The World Championship Division 1B will take place at the 5,840-seat Tondiraba Ice Hall in the Estonian capital of Tallinn, which opened in 2014 and has since hosted several IIHF tournaments.
