Gks Katowice and Herning Blue Fox return to face each other in the Continental Cup after having crossed the sticks in the November semi-final in Cortina, Italy. Back then the Danes won in overtime, a decisive victory for the Blue Fox to reach the Superfinals in Cardiff.

The Vindico Arena hosts a good number of fans of the two teams with a majority of Poles, who never stopped cheering on their team.

In the first period it was the yellow and blacks who opened the scoring after 5 minutes with the Japanese Shigeki Hitosato, continuing to control the match without major problems for goalie Murray. Before the siren, however, Herining unexpectedly overturned the result by scoring two goals in 11 seconds, both with Morten Poulsen, who at 19:39 ends up scoring with a good collective action and at 19:50 finds the right angle to beat na uncertain Murray from the blue line.

In the central period after 2 minutes the Latvian Victor Cubars scored the third Danish goal.  The Blue Fox seem more determined and well placed in defense, frustrating Katowice’s attacking attempts.  Unexpectedly, however, the Polish found the second goal at 24:33 with Jakub Wanacki, reopening the match.

In the third period Katowice equalized immediately on power play with the Swede Hampus Olsson.  With the score at 3-3, the Poles seem to be in control of the game, but instead Herning again finds the advantage in the 49’20 minute with Mathias Bau.  The joy of the Danish fans ends after just 30 seconds, when Benjamin Sokay scores the 4-4 which, like in November, sends the match into overtime.

In the additional time a penalty for boarding called on Olli Isakka gives na important superiority to Herning who fails to convert the goal.  So we go to the shootouts where Katowice scores the first two, while Herning misses 3 out of 3, giving the first points for the yellow and blacks
