Wade Belak was found dead in Toronto

01 Sep 2011 | Davide Tuniz

Former Nashville and Toronto player's death is the third in a span of four months.

According to the Toronto Sun, former defender Wade Belak was found dead in a Toronto condominium. Some sources reported that Belak took his life, but there was no official cause of death released from Toronto Police.

At the age of 35, Belak retired from the NHL in March after 549 career regular season games. He scored 8 goals and 25 assists, along with 1263 penalty minutes for the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators. He played during the lockout season for Coventry Blaze in England, where he won the League and Challenge Cups. His death comes just two weeks after forward Rick Rypien passed away, while in march Derek Boogaard died by an accidental mix of alcohol and oxycodone.

UPDATE from September 01: The Associated Press reported a source familiar with the case stating player hanged himself in a luxury hotel in Toronto. "At this point it's non-suspicious," Toronto police spokesman Tony Vella said Thursday at AP. "We will not provide any further information on a non-suspicious case."
